Research in Motion (RIM) is definitely looking to jump back into the forefront of the smartphone market. Coming less than a week after RIM unveiled the BlackBerry Torch comes the announcement of major upgrades to an older line of BlackBerry, the Curve. The new BlackBerry Curve 9300 will be the first model of Curve to run on 3G, and, although it will ship with BlackBerry OS 5, it will be immediately upgradable to OS 6.0. Like the Torch, the new Curve isn’t an iPhone killer – it isn’t equipped with a touchscreen or anything too fancy – but will come with the standard optical trackpad and full QWERTY keyboard. Although no price has been officially announced, the Curve line has been known for its affordability, and the new model will likely be relatively cheap as well. The Curve 3G will launch within the next “coming weeks,” and will be available on T-Mobile.

Between the announcement of BlackBerry OS 6.0, the new Torch, and the upgraded Curve, it looks like RIM will really be getting back into the smartphone game this fall.
