A number of weeks ago, an image of a yet-announced or released device was leaked onto Nokia’s Ovi Store. This morning, without too much fanfare, the mysterious phone was finally announced officially. Nokia’s 5250, a budget-friendly music-based touchscreen smartphone, was posted on Nokia’s official blog early Tuesday morning. The phone comes with a music player, able to be loaded from your personal library or from tracks purchased from the Ovi Store, as well as an FM radio. Although the cheap phone comes with just 51 megabytes of storage, it supports Micro SD cards up to 16 gigabytes. The phone also comes with a free copy of the mobile Guitar Hero game, adding to the music theme. However, the phone will ship with an older version of Nokia’s smartphone operating system, Symbian^1 as opposed to the soon-to-be-released Symbian^3 OS.

In terms of battery life, the 5250 will last 18 days on standby, 7 hours of talk, or 24 hours of continuous music. The camera is just 2 megapixels, which is quite below average for most of today’s phones, though photography isn’t the phone’s focus. The device also boasts a 2.8-inch touchscreen with a 640 x 360 pixel resolution.

The Nokia 5250 is expected to be released in several countries, including those in Asia, Europe, and Latin America, some time in the fourth quarter.
