Kindle Air Pretty Much Confirmed

We’ve all seen the signs of a new Kindle coming – the price drops, the marketing changes – but today the next model has been just about confirmed. Amazon has, through the use of a few previously-seen shell companies, registered one KindleAir.com, which as we all know, is not a star wars reference. intrigued? Read on!

As we know, Amazon has been quietly picking up kindle-related domains on the sly for the last while, grabbing kindlesocialnetwork.com and kindlesocialnetworking.com after their roll out of social features on the existing Kindle. This latest acquisition is not only more functional – really, those two are quite a handful – but also much more blatant in it’s branding. Working, perhaps, off from the same appeal that Apple has managed with their own Macbook Air (yes, we all know they’re baiting again). Obviously, we do not have any details at the moment, due to the fact that all of the furor is focused around a domain name; for all we know, this could be a new content distribution system for Kindles, with very confusing naming. We can guess, though.

As the domain suggests, the new Kindle will most likely put an eye towards form factor. Thin, light, artfully colored; the chance of it ripping off some of today’s popular tablets is strong. We’ll most likely see at least a nod towards cloud-storage as well, shifting most/all books on Amazon’s servers in order to block competitors content increase ease of access. We can also expect more software support, with library’s being more or less nudged out of the picture.
