Popular music festival Bonnaroo will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in June, in the city of Manchester, Tennessee with some big-name artist this year. Although it’s nearly four months away, the festival is already heating up.
Hot on the heels of the completely redesigned Bonnaroo website comes a very unique method in announcing their line-up this year: in the form of a Spotify playlist.
That’s right, Bonnaroo organizers have chosen to announce the line-up for this year’s festival via popular music player/streaming service Spotify, with a playlist of notable songs from each artist.
Among the 81 tracks, major notable names this year include Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beach Boys, as well as 2012 Grammy Award winners Bon Iver and Skrillex.
Regular readers may recognize my love for Spotify‘s music streaming service. If their great mobile app or their handy new “Apps” feature doesn’t seal the deal for you, their Bonnaroo partnership might.
This is a great marketing move for all parties: Bonnaroo is quickly gaining recognition from tech blogs – rather than music blogs – for their unique delivery of the festival headliners. Spotify will certainly gain more traction as a music streaming service. And, of course, all artists will receive a little compensation when potential festival-goers stream their tracks on Spotify.
Bonnaroo will be held – as always – in Manchester, Tennessee from June 7 – 10. The 81-track playlist is available here (Spotify required). Or, if you aren’t a Spotify user, the official line-up can be found here.
